Do you ever listen to classical music?
A few years ago, I stumbled onto WETA (90.9 FM), a commercial-free radio station that plays classical music and serves the Washington, D.C. area (where I live). Since then, I have been a devoted listener.
Why You Should Listen to Classical Music
Listening to classical music provides many benefits. First of all, it relaxes you and helps you feel calmer. Whether you suffer from anxiety and depression or simply want to experience more peacefulness throughout your day, listening to classical music is a natural remedy. Secondly, listening to classical music boosts your brainpower. Research has found that it can improve your memory and your ability to concentrate and think clearly.
When You Should Listen to Classical Music
Here are five of the best times to listen to classical music:
1. When your alarm clock goes off.
Rather than being jolted awake by an obnoxious series of beeps from your alarm clock, set your alarm clock to play classical music. It is a much more peaceful way to wake up each day.
2. When you are getting ready for work.
Many people feel anxious or stressed-out when they are getting ready for work in the morning. Turn on some classical music, and you will feel more relaxed. I keep a radio in my bathroom and listen to classical music while showering and getting dressed for work (after my morning workout).
3. When you are driving or commuting.
Listening to the news, talk radio, or high-energy music can amp you up and make you more aggressive and irritable when you are driving or commuting. Listen to classical music instead. You will drive more safely and be calmer during your travel time.
4. In the evening and before bed.
Rather than watching television or wasting time on social media or your cell phone, listen to classical music before bed. You will fall asleep faster and sleep more soundly.
5. Whenever you feel anxious or stressed-out.
Listen to classical music whenever you feel anxious or stressed-out. It can help reduce or prevent these unwelcome feelings throughout your day.
Where to Find Classical Music
If you do not have access to a classical music radio station in your area, you can get access to classical music through Spotify or another streaming music service. You can also listen to WETA Classical online at https://weta.org/player.
